PRU15 dalam waktu terdekat ditolak keras pakar-pakar

TERKEJUT juga membaca kenyataan Prof Azmi Hassan mengenai peluang tipis (slim chances) untuk Umno menang jika PRU15 dilangsungkan dalam waktu terdekat. Kata beliau, kehendak Umno supaya PRU15 dilangsungkan dalam waktu terdekat kelihatan diasaskan kepada sentimen akar umbinya dan bukannya kehendak rakyat Malaysia.

Kata beliau lagi, ia tidak kelihatan bagus untuk Umno kerana rakyat Malaysia akan melihat Umno mengutamakan agenda politiknya tanpa memikirkan mengenai kebajikan rakyat. Prof Sivamurugan Pandian pula berkata memaksa PRU15 dilangsungkan sebelum tempoh edahnya akan menyebabkan Umno dituduh membahayakan kesihatan awam.

Selain itu, kata Prof Sivamurugan Pandian lagi, memaksa PRU15 dilangsungkan sebelum tempoh edahnya juga akan menyebabkan wujudnya perpecahan dalam parti itu. Pandangan kedua-dua mereka wajar diambil berat kerana kedua-dua mereka bukanlah ‘hostile’ malah biasa dipanggil oleh Umno, bersama-sama saya, untuk memberi pandangan.

Lebih serius lagi ialah kandungan surat terbuka 46 orang pakar kesihatan, terkecuali Prof Emeritus Jomo Kwame Sundaram yang bukan pakar kesihatan, yang menolak perkara sama.

Kata 46 orang pakar kesihatan ini, PRU15 tatkala pandemik COVID-19 belum diatasi adalah satu bencana yang menunggu untuk berlaku (‘an unmitigated disaster waiting to happen’).
