Boy, 8, killed by crocodile in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU – An eight-year-old boy was killed by a crocodile while bathing in a river in Kampung Sabah Baru here today.

Lahad Datu district police chief ACP Rohan Shah Ahmad said in the incident at 1.30 pm today, the victim and his friend were bathing in the river before he was attacked by the reptile.

“The friend who saw the incident informed the victim’s father. A search and rescue mission was activated with the Marine Police and Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Department,” he said in a statement here.

Rohan Shah said the victim’s body was found floating, about 20 metres from his house, with bite marks on his waist, abdomen and chest at 3.30 pm.

The body was sent to Lahad Datu Hospital for post-mortem and the case was classified as sudden death, he said.
