Dewan Muslimat PAS Malaysia is watching closely regarding the recent developments in France and Europe. The world was shocked with the horrific tragedy of a young Muslim student beheaded a French schoolteacher who had shown caricatures mocking Prophet Muhammad in a class.

Previously, the Muslim world faced a similar tragedy when Charlie Hebdo, published caricatures to mock our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), insulting Muslims across the world.

We would like to reiterate our condemnation to the shallow response by the French President Emmanuel Macron’s critique of Islam. Adding fuel to the fire, he went further by awarding the slain schoolteacher with the Legion of Honor, France’s top civil award.

Dewan Muslimat PAS Malaysia strongly urged the French President to revoke the award immediately.
It is a new low and insult from France to award such Honor as an act of defiance in pretending to protect the rights to mock the Prophet of our religion, which is also the second-most widely professed religion in France behind Christianity, in disguise of freedom of speech.

It is important for France to understand that ensuring respect for all religious beliefs is a collective responsibility and is absolutely critical for global peace and coexistence.
