GEORGE TOWN – The Mufti of Penang Datuk Seri Dr Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor has asked all mosques and surau in the state to hold Solat Hajat (prayer of need) to seek Allah’s protection following the recent spike in the COVID-19 cases in the country.

“I have asked the State Islamic Religious Department’s Mosque and Surau Management Division to inform all mosques and surau in the state to hold the prayers for all of us to be protected from the pandemic.

“I also call on all congregants who are present at the mosques and surau to recite Qunut Nazilah for protection from harm,” he said when contacted here today.

He said this in response to the increase of COVID-19 cases in the country, including in Penang, which had recorded eight positive cases so far involving inmates at the Penang Remand Prison.

In another development, Wan Salim advised all parties not to go to extremes in criticising Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri who was confirmed positive for COVID-19, on social media.

“We should carefully find out what really happened and not to make any comment based only on hearsays. Avoid punishing someone unfairly for fear of getting involved in slander that will expose us to great sins in the sight of Allah,” he said.
