RANAU – The Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for the Karanaan state seat Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun will focus on the efforts to produce more young entrepreneurs particularly in the field of agriculture.
The incumbent assemblyman said he would make it happen if he is given the mandate to retain the seat in the next term.
“Ranau has a vast area of fertile land and the youths here are highly enthusiastic to become farmers, the only thing that is lacking is the initial capital to start their foray into agriculture.
“Therefore, I plan to work towards getting the initial capital for the youths who are interested to be entrepreneurs in the field of agriculture,” he told Bernama after campaigning at Kampung Karanaan here.
Masidi who is also the Bersatu Sabah deputy chief coordinator said young people in Ranau were able to compete for they had the determination to succeed.
Commenting on his campaign trail in the constituency, Masidi said he had received positive feedback from the voters and hoped it would be translated well in the polls results this Saturday.
However, he said, it was challenging to meet up with all 13,425 voters in the constituency due to the restrictions enforced to contain the spread of COVID-19.
“I have conducted more meet-the-people programmes but in smaller scales in order to meet with the voters,” said the politician who also used the Dusun language in his talks.
In the 14th General Election in 2018, Masidi who contested under the Barisan Nasional ticket garnered 6,849 votes to win the seat with a majority of 3,782 votes.
Masidi is being challenged by three other candidates for the seat, namely Mohd Tajuddin Sadi of USNO, Hadzrul Masnin (PCS) and Awasi Ganie@Yasin Abdul Ghani (Warisan).
