PASIR MAS – The 7th Battalion of the General Operations Force (PGA7) thwarted an attempt to smuggle in frozen chicken from Thailand with the seizure of the consignment, in 257 boxes and worth RM70,840, near the Jitong illegal jetty here yesterday.

PGA7 Commanding Officer, Supt Azhari Nusi said the activity was detected at about 6 am when GOF patrol members saw several men unloading boxes from a boat onto two vehicles.

However, when the GOF members approached the men, all of them fled by jumping into Sungai Golok to a waiting boat and crossed to the Thai border.

“Checks at the scene found a Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Vanette laden with hundreds of boxes, which were later found to contain 2,570 kg of frozen chicken,” he told reporters at the GOF Tactical headquarters in Lubok Setol here today.

He said the boxes of frozen chicken were then handed over to the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) Department for further action.

On “Op Benteng COVID”, Azhari said six arrests, involving tekong and illegal immigrants, were made since last Sept 14.
