ALOR SETAR – A total of 12,885 residents in the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) area in Kota Setar district have undergone COVID-19 screening test as of yesterday.
Kedah Health director Dr Mohd Fikri Ujang said those screened were close contacts of COVID-19 positive cases and those in high-risk category of being infected with the virus.
“Those with symptoms (of COVID-19) are also screened for early detection to curb the spread of the pandemic more effectively. It is estimated that between 15,000 and 20,000 residents in this district will be screened during the EMCO period and if there are new positive cases, screening will continue.
“The results of screening will be known within 72 hours, and residents who are tested positive will be contacted by the Kota Setar district health office (PKD) operations room and will be taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement here today.
He said those who were not contacted 72 hours after the screening test, are asked to continue practising the new normal as recommended by the Health Ministry and the government.
Dr Mohd Fikri said the Kedah State Health Department (JKN) would like to advise the community to carry out their respective social responsibilities in combating the spread of the pandemic, especially by complying with the recommended standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“Most cases of COVID-19 infection occur due to public negligence on the proposed new normal practices, so all must comply with the prescribed SOPs.
“Those who were given instructions to undergo home quarantine, will be asked to continue staying at home and JKN will continue to monitor the development of COVID-19 infection cases in the state and will ensure appropriate prevention and control measures are implemented,” he said.
He also reminded the community not to spread unverified news that will cause both annoyance and panic to the community.
