GEORGE TOWN – The Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail today celebrated the 63rd National Day by cycling in Penang to spread the spirit of patriotism and love for the country.

Since 2014, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra has made a point to lead a cycling delegation to Thailand on the National Day. However, as the country’s borders are still closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to continue the tradition this year by holding the event in Penang instead.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra said that the event was dedicated to the frontliners who have been looking after the country well.

“The services of the country’s heroes are priceless and can never be repaid. Peace and security enjoyed by our country now is due to the hard work of previous leaders and also national heroes who have given their best in ensuring the people can live in comfort and harmony,” he said here today.

He also reminded Malaysians to continue to be responsible in looking after themselves and each other as the world is still facing the COVID-19 threat.

The spirit of patriotism must be instilled in every Malaysian so that they will feel deeper love for the country, he added.

In today’s event, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra was accompanied by heads of state government departments and agencies as well as the private sector, including state legal adviser Mohd Radhi Abas, state financial officer Nasaruddin Abdul Muttallib, state Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, 30th Infantry Brigade Commander Brig Gen Hassan Embong and Perlis police chief SAC Datuk Surina Saad.

The 120-member delegation was greeted by Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang and Penang police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan.

The 18-kilometer cycle, with the participation of about 120 people, kicked off at the MBPP in Padang Kota, before the delegation cycled to the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge while flying the Jalur Gemilang.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra later planted a Sea Hibiscus tree at GSD Cycling Park, Queensbay, as a memento of his visit, and also visited the Chinese village at Lee Jetty and Jerejak Island as well as spending time with local residents.
