He said the dead comprised five adults, including three women, and one boy and one girl.

“The three injured are two boys and a man,” he said in a statement.

Rescue operations are ongoing and more details are expected to be made available later.

Ipoh district police chief ACP A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the incident happened at 5.30 pm as the Perodua Alza was travelling from Cameron Highlands to Kedah.

It skidded into the opposite lane before colliding with the trailer, he added.

He said the victims have yet to be identified and police were trying to trace their next of kin.

“The injured were sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) while the trailer driver escaped unhurt,” he told reporters at the Forensic Department of HRPB here tonight.

He said police had identified the owner of the MPV, who lives at Mukim Terap, Kampung Badlishah in Serdang, Kedah.

Preliminary investigations showed that one of the victims had borrowed the MPV from its owner, he said.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident should come forward to help in investigation,” he added.
