MELAKA – Melaka police have urged those who will be going back to their hometowns for the Deepavali holidays to fill up the ‘balik kampung’ form to facilitate police in their surveillance and patrolling activities.

State police chief Datuk Zainol Samah said since the campaign was implemented in 2021, there have been no reports of break-ins involving residences or premises involved in the programme.

“In addition to filling up the form which is available at any nearest police station, the public can also use the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) app to notify us pf their movements.

“So far, we have received 39 feedback from the public through VSP and we have also distributed forms to residents’ representatives to be given out to those who plan to return to their hometowns during the Deepavali holidays,” he said.

He said this after officiating a crime prevention campaign and Deepavali walkabout at Kampung Chetti Gajah Behrang here last night.

Meanwhile, Zainol stated that the Melaka police received 108 feedback in 2021 and 135 responses last year via both channels.

According to him, strong community participation was critical to crime prevention and ensuring security in their neighbourhood areas, particularly during the festival and holiday seasons. – Bernama
